WebZEPHRYHILLS (Special) William H. "Speed" Gardner, 76, who died here Tuesday, was a race drive in the old USAC circuit and drove the Indianapolis 500. His best finish was in 1929 when he and relief driver Chuck Gardner took sixth place. He was 27th in 1930 and 25 in 1931. He was seriously injured in a wreck in 1933 and retired from racing.
