WebNeumann headed for California and the start of the 1934 Bendix Transcontinental Race, only to be forced down in Nevada and wipe out the landing gear of the brand new airplane. Neumann managed to salvage fourth place in the Thompson Trophy Race and second place in the Greve Race in Howard's little "Ike", but they had wanted all the marbles.
