This allows you run a tighter ring package and tighter piston to wall clearances, decreasing blow-by and piston rock on cold starts. This is why they started being used in production engines. Hyper pistons also have the benefit of being lighter than forged and cost less. WebExample: For a naturally aspirated street engine using a cast piston with 4.000″ bore, the top ring end gap would be 4.000 x .004″ = .016″. The second ring end gap would be 4.000 x .0045″ = .018″. You can try a 174/177 + 100hp of nitrous and run 10's easy. Also possible to run a 174/177 +150hp shot and with a very good tune tickle 9's.This is with a small block at 8.5:1 compression and decent aftermarket heads. May 24, 2012.
