You are capable of doing more precise and quicker inputs with the joystick than with the analog because of how it is designed and the fact that you are using your hand instead of your thumb. It's why the aftermarket dpad has a shallow center because each direction is a button. You might be able to shave the ball on the dpad so it's a flat surface underneath.
