The first skateboards were made out of wood because that is what most people had access to at the time. Skateboarding became popular in the 1960s and 1970s, when it was seen as a rebellious activity. He described his new invention as a “slap-happy, plywood surfboard with Rollerblade wheels.” However, skateboarding can be traced back to the 1930s when people started using roller skates on wooden boards.
